The statistics are shocking: According to the American Social Health Association (ASHA), 75 percent of Americans between the ages of 15 and 49 have been infected by the genital strain of the human papillomavirus (HPV), the proven precursor to cervical cancer. But before you run to your gynecologists, it's important to get the basics on the virus, so you can put the numbers in perspective. Here, the facts on HPV.

What is it?
HPV is a sexually transmitted disease(STD) that is spread through direct contact. The virus is often asymptomatic (meaning there won't be any signs you have it)but can sometimes show in the form of genital warts. the ASHA's National HPV and Cervical Cancer Prevention Center estimates that more than 5.5 million new cases of HPV occur each year--that's one-third of all new STD infections. Don't let the numbers freak you out, though. There are more than 100 different strains of the virus, many of which are harmless and will naturally filter out of your body within one to two years. "For about 85 percent of the young girls who contact HPV, their immune system can fight it," says Christine Waldron, an ob-gyn at Women's Health Care of New England. And even those who contract a high-risk type of HPV may not develop cervical cancer.
How can you get it?
Genital HPV is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, not an exchange of bodily fluids, which explains why condom use doesn't completely prevent the spread of the disease--they don't cover the entire genital area where the virus lives. Although a condom can't completely protect you from HPV, it does help minimize the risk of contracting it.

Does it affect males?
According to Waldron, the high-risk starins of HPV that get into females' cervical cells rarely affect males' systems because the skin around their genitals is tougher and less penetrable. Like females, males are carriers of HPV and can show symptoms, such as genital warts, but most often HPV isn't problematic for their bodies.

Should you be worried if you have HPV?
Though it's true that, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 4,000 women in the U.S, die of cervical cancer each year, most strains of HPV are trancient and go away on their own. HPV affects your body much like a cold--because it doesn't enter the bloodstream, it doesn't lead to a strong physical immunological response. Having HPV becomes a bigger issue if you contract a train that leads to cervical dysplasia--the production of abnormal or precancerous cells in the cervix.

How do you prevent it?
As reported in The New York Times, two major drug companies are currently working on vaccines to prevent HPV. One, called Gardasil, could have FDA approval by the end of this year and has been shown to be effective in preventing the HPV types most commonly found in cervical cancer. But while getting a preventive vaccine seems simple, shots like Gardasil are quite controversial. the vaccine would be administered to eleven- and twelve-year-olds, causing some conservative doctors and lawmakers to argue that giving a preteen a vaccine against an STD clashes with calls for abstinence. So though a vaccine is on the horizon, it might not be immediately available. In the meantime, Waldron and the CDC agree that the best method for reducing the risk of HPV is abstinence from below-the-belt contact.

Should teens get the HPV test?
The HPV test screens for the thirteen most common strains associated with cervical cancer. According to Waldron, ASHA, and a report in the New England Journal of Medicine, it's not necessary for teens to get the test if they haven't had an abnormal Pap smear; the type of genital HPV that causes your body to produces precancerous cells and could lead to cervical cancer will show up in a regular Pap test. Mild versions of HPV are common among sexually active young women under 30 and, again, often resolve themselves without medical intervention. The commercials you may have caught on TV are aimed at women over 30, who are statistically more at risk than teens for developing cervical cancer from HPV.

Jane is a public high school standout. She marched her way to success no less by graduating as the class valedictorian of their batch. And now, she is very much exited to go to college and finish a degree.

A cold and cloudy morning welcomed me as I quench my hunger by smelling the newly cooked delicious Pork Adobo. Combining my hair was the last thing I did in our messy living room while watching the morning talk show.

The loud horns were the first thing I heard while waiting for a jeep together with other busy - looking passengers carrying their luggage and briefcases. Smoke was everywhere and people covered their nose.

It was nine in the morning when I took a glance on the watch of a little girl ready for school standing beside me. After a few minutes, red AC jeep with a metal horse placed in the hood stopped in front of us and loaded as much as passengers as it can.

I sat at the far end of the left side at the back near the driver's seat. It was almost full when it started to move. There were five students sitting near the entrance, an old lady in a nursing suit in front of the students, a guy with his big black pack bag in front of me, and some little kids busy checking their bags were sitting next to me. Many paid their fare by passing it from one person to another before the driver.

I looked at the busy street where traffic was heavy. Private cars, public jeepneys, big buses, some motorcycles were building up until the road was crowded.

Not far from where I was a wet market. Some people were shouting, "Palit na mo, barato lang". Some were choosing the fresh vegetables spread on a big sack where people passed by. Beside these busy sellers and buyers were sleeping street children in a connected dirty cartons coverd by tattered and crumpled newspapers. They slept as if they weer apart from the world.

The jeep continued to move. We passed a tall building where people entered and went out, wearing their professional and office attires. They were pleasant to the eyes largely different from the street children that I saw in the market.

I checked my phone and it was almost ten. The jeep was almost empty that I haven't noticed. After a while, I step out of the jeep and walked to the school. Riding the metal horse was great.

In our country today, knowing the fact that it is democratic ran by a president chosen and elected by the nation, typical sceneries of rallies and protests are portrayed in some common areas. Girls, boys, children and adults join the protest. Protest that shouts and begs for equal treatment of the policies established by ranked individuals in the society.

An ordinary person like me, living in this drastic yet innocent world, has a silent protest within me. Activists are always present in the streets because they always see the wrong, dirty side of the world. They don't see the bright and wonderful side of it. They always contradict the decisions of the leaders instead of supporting it. They always raise their big, small, heavy, and light placards. They always shout, raising their voices to the highest pitch. They make noise barrages, hunger strikes and throw pillboxes. Above all, they are the voice of the people. But can we still consider then as good citizens of the country, good followers and abiders of the law?

Maybe some, such leaders of the activists, but majority of them are yes considered active, active in doing immoralities, and unethical behaviors. They criticize the government of not doing its best to reduce and prevent poverty, but did they do something about it? They always reproduce, and when time comes that they can't support their families anymore, they blame the government. That's what they always do and can only do.

Sometimes I feel that everything is a joke. The government is doing its best to develop the country but people don't see it. They make agreements with other countries that would help us comfortable in any means but people see it as if the government is selling the nation.

The people want the President to be impeached, but do they ever consider that the President has done good for the country, and do they ever think that what if the present president will be impeached and the next person in line could not lessen the problems in the country, will they impeach him and will do the same?

I guess the basic problem that I see now is that there is no unity among Filipinos, they don't support the leader in his or her decisions. These are just my opinions, and democracy will still prevail.

AFTER SEEING Walter Kirn’s article trashing contemporary Christian culture [“What Would Jesus Do?”], I could confidently defend our culture against his charges point by point. But for argument’s sake, let’s just assume that most every charge he levels is true or is at least an honest snapshot of what one can see when photographing much of the Christian landscape today. That being assumed, I urged him as he makes his point (although I remain unsure as to what the point is) to be careful. Be very careful! He should be careful that he does not miss the Christ through a view obstructed by less-than-perfect Christians. He shouldn’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. That baby was born with one purpose, one singular goal: to die for Kirn, myself and all mankind, because we are not and cannot be the people the Creator require us to be. How could a loving God require us to be something we cannot be? By providing a way out through His grace manifested in the sacrifice of His sinless Son. We cannot forgive our own sin. Only Christ can deal with it.

Kirn may call Christian faith a coping mechanism or a crutch. He does not go far enough. Faith in Christ is not a crutch; it is a stretcher! One cannot even limp into eternity without Him. No amount of humanistic pulling oneself up by one’s own bootstraps or vain self-employment techniques will ever be adequate to deal with our sin. Only the sacrifice of Christ can atone for our shortcomings.

Which is well and good, especially for those who can't get enough of his no-holds-barred enunciation of conservative views; he makes his points with clarity and, more often than not, with good old-fashioned logic and common sense. And as faithful followers of his popular Fox News Channel -- and readers of his other best-selling hardbacks The O' Reilly Factor: The Good, The Bad And The Completely Ridiculous In American Life and The No-spin Zone: Confrontations With The Powerful And Famous In America -- know only too well, he is adept at making his vitriol acceptable to the faceless mases who form the core market of Who's Looking Out For You?
There's just one problem, though; we're not really O'Reilly's target audience. Perhaps the graphic depiction of violence and irreverent material in the media and entertainment industry has caused inurement in the minds of youth. Perhaps the technological era we live in has made life so simple that people can be completely egotistic. I have failed to pinpoint an accurate antagonist, but something has caused society to lose some of its grip on reality. Something is making people care less.
It seems that morality and integrity in society become more questionable every day. Maybe my cynical attitude comes with age and, therefore, knowledge. Maybe everything has always been this bad and I just didn't noticed. People don't care about things. A person selfishly sees himself as some ideal persona who does nothing productive but, through some form of magic, is better than everyone else. They find pleasure in mind-altering substances that offer simulated happiness and supremacy. I refer to these callous individuals as "fake". Real people care about the feelings of others. Real people speak the truth. They respect authority and obligations impulsively. They fall in love and it's real.
It is disturbingly probable that I sound like a utopian writer who understands nothing of the real world. I merely choose to see those people who try to mold reality into something selfish as less than real. The brainless masses that are too selfish to respect (and occasionally feel sympathy for) their fellow human beings are fake. They will never offer nor receive love, as do real people, yet real people suffer. Real people do not commit crimes. Violence is a result of the selfish idiocy demonstrated by fake folks. I wish there is something that I could do to change the world, but the phony people desire the continuity of their dreamlike lifestyles too fervently to listen. They have too much enjoyment to care about anything real.

Online games are said to be "hit" than real sports. Its a sad story that we young people faces. Our youth and reckless mind has little by little corrupted by modernity. The problem is, computer games can destroy peace of mind, health and it maybe the reason why the gamer have taken its responsibilities for granted.

You are familiar with Freestyle, and Pangya, right? These are online games derived from basketball and golf, respectively. How about Ragnarok and RF online? These are level-up online games that extends towards war and killing. But, what will the players gain upon them? Eye deffection, passive action towards responsibilities and the worse, some get sick like ulcer and pneumonia. How did they win these illness? Based on my experience, I myself has acquired them, because I am also playing online game at the cold computer shop. (That's the price of the hard-headed people.) Sometimes, players forget their meal time.

Once an addict gamer will start to play, no one can stop him, unless he choose to stop. But after that game, he will still look for it. Some players stays at the shop for 24 hours, and at least 10-12 hours. Well, a lot of time wasted!

Have you ever heard the real story about a young man who played online for straight 3 days and 3 nights that causes his death! See, how he lost his future, his dreams and his life? He abuse his self just to have the nonsense game in exchange of his precious life.

The said that engaging in online game will develop your confidence. I doubt, It's the pride and the vain glory of the gamer.

The lesson here is, if you want to have fun and leisure, why don't you just play the real game! Sports will help in building-up your mind, strength, flexibility, endurance, agility and relationship with your team mates and opponents. Perhaps, there is nothing wrong with sports.
